Easter 2015

Both Mimi and Brenna came for Easter!  Score and Win!!  It was a very quiet day.  We did all the typical Mt. Burnside BBQ things.  The Easter BBQ is usually the first one of the season and we all stumble out of our houses all squinty and pale from a winter stuck inside.  Today the weather was beautiful, we had a ton of food and the kids had a great time hunting eggs.  As tradition calls for, the big kids hid all the little kids eggs, over 200, and then the Dads hid all the "big kid" eggs.  Each big kid gets to find one giant egg and the Dads make it a point of pride to hide the eggs where they can't be found! :o)  There's also the much coveted Golden Egg... which has more special stuff... usually more money... Heath found it again this year for a 3-peat!  He's got the knack.
It's a little bit weird when the Easter Bunny brings alcohol!

Just a small sample of all the eggs that were hidden.  I have a feeling we're going to be finding eggs until Christmas.

Brenna hoping her big egg will just magically appear in front of her eyes!

Is he hunting eggs or getting ready to break into the house?

All the big kids were successful in finding their eggs, but they had to work for them this year.

What a pair...so damn cute!!

Easter

Brenna couldn't make it home for Easter, she's going to come home next weekend instead.  It was a very low key Easter.  We did our typical Cul-de-sac BBQ.  We always have a nice time, good wine, good food and friends.  The big kids hide eggs, at least 200, for the little kids and the grownups hid the big eggs (one each) for the big kids.  Then the hunting begins.  At least this year we could hide outside instead of hiding them all in our house again.

The weekend wasn't over... we still had Easter as well!

After our exhausting Regatta, we still had Easter ahead of us.  The kids got their Easter Baskets and proceeded to dye eggs.  Sometimes I think dyeing the eggs is more complicated the older they get.  They had a great time, minus a brief fight about who put the egg in the yellow dye and who put the egg in the blue dye.
Give me strength

We did it typical Mt. Burnside Style... cul-de-sac BBQ.  Unfortunately, the weather was sucky.  Windy, rainy and freaking cold.  So we moved it into the Prices' house, with the egg hunt taking place in our house.  The "big" kids got to hunt for 5 huge eggs that were hidden outside...in the rain...cause if those kids really still want to hunt for eggs, then we're gonna make them work for it!

Then the "big" kids, hid eggs for the little ones in our house.  They had over 200 eggs to hide in our house! Then we turned the little ones loose... it was a crazy, wild, melee.... I think everyone had a great time.  I'm not sure who enjoyed it more, the little ones hunting with their baskets or the parents following along behind "helping."  I am happy to report, nothing got broken, no one cried and everyone got PLENTY of eggs!
I just love our neighborhood so much!  We ate too much, laughed too much and just had a great time!

P.S.  3 days later.. I've found 7 more eggs.. it's like my own personal egg hunt everyday.

Easter Recap

We had a very nice Easter weekend.  Our girl got to come home and hang out and we did a fabulous Mt. Burnside Easter Cookout and Egg hunt.  Just like they did it on Leave it to Beaver.

Egg Hunt game face on!

No more pictures!
Kids got their Easter baskets in the morning and then we relaxed until the BBQ. The kids actually decorated eggs.  We haven't decorated eggs in probably 5 years, but the Easter Bunny found these really cool (and mess free) Q-tips with dye in them and put those in the baskets.  After they finished with the baskets, we boiled eggs and they decorated.  I think it will be a new tradition.  The Easter Bunny will look for cook or unusual egg dyeing methods and put them in the baskets and then we can decorate after baskets.  Fun!   As usual Mt. Burnside can put on a shindig.  Lots of good food, a huge egg hunt for all the kids - big and small. John had worked all weekend on landscaping projects and we woke up Sunday morning to find the Easter Toilet in the front yard.  I must say it added quite a festive atmosphere to the party.   Everyone wanted to have their picture taken with the Easter Toilet. After dinner the kids and I had a Walking Dead marathon.  That is one creepy ass show!  Gave me Zombie dreams for 2 solid days!

Happy Easter!

We had a wonderful Easter 2011!  It started off with everyone sleeping in late except me.  Can I just say the one thing that's nice about your children getting older is that the Easter Bunny was very happy that he could go home after a long night.  Get a good night's sleep, wake up , have his morning coffee and then put out the Hyzy Easter Baskets!  It is tricky when the kids are 18 and 13 to figure out what to put in their baskets.  So they got things like body wash, deoderant and socks, but mostly candy.  Oh the candy!
I love a man-boy who will wear a good pair of Easter socks!
I guess no matter how old they get, candy is always good.  I don't know why that surprises me, since as the baskets were being stuffed, there was - one candy for Brenna, one candy for Zack and "Ooohhh that's a good one" for mom!  I can't believe how grown up they are getting.  I mean look at Zack - he's almost as tall as his sister.  Wha-a-a-a-t!?

Cooper is helping with the egg hiding.
Hiding instead of hunting this year.

We had a fabulous cul-de-sac outdoor lunch together.  I just love our cul-de-sac, it's exactly the kind of neighborhood I always imagined.  The adults hangout, talk, play washers, drink and generally enjoy themselves especially if the requisite Big Bucket O' Margaritas is busted out!  The kids run around eating too much candy, getting too tired, too dirty and too wound up.  Someone always cries and someone else makes them laugh and they all go at it again.  In the summer it's fire fly catching and outdoor movie night and glow in the dark bracelets.  We all yell at each other's kids, and tell parenting war stories that make you feel better and worse about yourself all at the same time.  I know people always "pooh-pooh" Hilary Clinton, but when she said "It takes a village"but she was damn right.  Even when you don't agree with parenting styles or advice - its' still nice to have it all and see how other people do it, how it works or doesn't work.  It just makes it all so much better with good friends!
So, the adults hid eggs and the kids hunted for eggs.  You are never too old to hunt for eggs when candy is involved.  The big kids helped the little kids and the adults rummaged through the candy... and it was GOOD!
